In Buckinghamshire we deliver mentoring as part of our Transition Project, we engage with children in Year 5 and 6. We acknowledge how difficult transitioning to secondary school can be, through this project we help young people through a formative transition process. We employ a person centred, trauma informed approach when working with young people. We work with young people from ethnically diverse communities.
In Buckinghamshire we source and train Volunteer Mentors who complete our 8 week AQA accredited Wholistic mentoring training course. We pair young people with Volunteer Mentors who provide guidance for transition between primary and secondary school. Volunteer Mentors also support with other daily challenges that the children may face.
We currently provide mentoring in four primary schools across Buckinghamshire, as well as 1:1 mentoring we deliver a PSHE session on culture and identity. 1:1 mentoring -mentors engage with the young people weekly for an hour term time.
We aim to build trusting relationships, increasing self-confidence, aspirations, self-awareness and building resilience as they transition to secondary school.
